ALASKA STATE HUNTING REGULATIONS 01 JULY 1995 - 30 JUNE 1996


Page 5- If the species is not listed, you may not hunt it. If you want to take beaver, mink, marten, muskrat, weasel, marmot or land otter, you must buy a trapping license and follow trapping regulations. You may take wolf, wolverine, coyote, fox, lynx or squirrels under either a hunting license or a trapping license, but you must follow the seasons, bag limits, methods and means permitted by that license.


A resident is a person who has continually maintained a permanent home and a voting residence in Alaska for the preceding 12 consecutive months. Ref AS16.05.940(26) Page 7


Resident hunters 60 years or older may obtain a FREE, permanent identification card issued by the department. The I.D. card replaces your sport fishing, hunting, and trapping license. Page 7


Resident Trapping lic $15.00, Hunting $25.00, Hunting\Trapping $40.00. Page 7 U.S. Citizens who are not residents of Alaska are Nonresidents. Non-resident Hunting lic $85.00, Hunting\Trapping $250.00.Page 8 Non-resident Tag fees Wolf $175.00 each.


Hunting Restrictions for Big Game means bears, bison, caribou, sheep, deer, elk, mt goat, moose, muskox, wolf and wolverine. You may not use a rimfire weapon, may not hunt with a muzzle loading rifle equipped with a scope, may not hunt with the aid or use of a dog, may not hunt big game animals while they are swimming, may not hunt big game from a boat unless you have a permit for a physical disability, may not hunt or help someone else take big game until 3:00 am the day following the day you have flown.

All units five wolves (except Unit 26 Pt Barrow area ten wolves) of which only two may be taken within the Kenia National Wildlife Refuge between August 10-April 30.


ALASKA STATE MISCELLANEOUS GAME REGULATIONS 1995 - 1996 5 AAC 92.029(a) PERMIT FOR POSSESSING LIVE GAME no person may possess, import, release, export, or assist in importing, releasing, or exporting live game (wolves, wolverine, moose, bear, etc) unless the person holds a permit issued by the department.


5 AAC 92.039 PERMIT FOR TAKING WOLVES WITH AIRCRAFT(a) no person may use an aircraft to land and shoot, nor shoot a wolf from the aircraft without first obtaining a permit from the department. A permit is valid for 30 days only or for a shorter period if a specified quota of wolves is taken in a specified area. The commissioner may limit the number of permits issued in any unit and the number of wolves authorized to be taken under each permit, and shall issue permits in a manner that assures that only a qualified individual receives a permit under this section. 5 AAC 92.110 CONTROL OF PREDATION BY WOLVES.......Poison may not be used to take a wolf. "Denning," the killing of wolf young in the den, is prohibited.


5 AAC 92.125 WOLF PREDATION CONTROL IMPLEMENTATION PLANS.....(A) to reverse the decline of the Delta caribou herd and increase the midsummer population to 6,000-8,000 with a sustainable annual harvest of 300-500 caribou by the year 1998.


5 AAC 92.230 FEEDING OF GAME. No person may intentionally feed a moose (except under terms of a permit issued by the department), bear, wolf, fox, or wolverine, or intentionally leave human food or garbage in a manner that attracts these animals.


TRAPPING REGULATIONS 01 JULY 1995 - 30 JUNE 1996: WOLF Page 52&53: Wolves taken in Unit 15A must be sealed within 5 days of the kill; all other wolves must be sealed within 30 days after the close of the season in the unit they are taken. It is against the law to trap a wolf in Units 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 24, or 25 during April or October with a steel trap or with a snare smaller than 3/32 inch in diameter. You may shoot a wolf on the same day in which you have flown in an airplane if the wolf is either caught in a trap or snare or you are over 300 feet from the airplane at the time of taking (5 AAC 92.095). NOTE you may NOT harass, herd, or molest wolves with an aircraft prior to taking (5 AAC 92.085) Airplanes may be used only for access and not as an integral method of taking wolves.
