Comments On: Why do you wean so young?

From: Brooke on 07/13/01

I would like to know if there are any drawbacks to removing baby monkeys when they are so young from their mothers? Don't their mothers go through some sort of depression/anxiety/agression when you keep taking away their little babies?

I know that you take the babies and hand raise and bottle feed them and give them great homes, but what are you doing to the mother's when you keep taking away their children?

I hope someone can help explain this, thank you.

I have heard that in the wild most anamals once seperated from their babies if not reunited shortly after will lose any memory of even giving birth to any.
don't know if that holds true for monkeys though.
