This message is for all the monkey parents out there. I want to know if monkeys know how to swim. Specifically rhesus and cynos. Is this ability natural or is it something they have to learn?
I've seen pictures of monkeys with their owners in pools, but I want to know if the monkeys can actually swim on their own, and if this ability is something they're born with or taught.

the proboscis monkey from borneo is naturally a very good swimmer, however accounts of most other wild primates suggest that the bulk of them do avoid water as a general rule. swimming is definitely not thought to be innate in the majority of primates.

high I have a 8wk old pig-tail, she started swimming in the tub about a week ago she is like a scuba diver! she is one of the best swimmers I have ever seen, It is natural for all macaques to swim, they love it.
