Comments On: Monkeys and Dogs
From: Diane on 06/24/01I have a four year old male squirrel monkey--Kyle. In february his little brother Logie passed away from bone disease. We are all very devasted from this. Kyle is sad and lonely with out Logie. I do not work so i am home most of the time with him--but i have to leave the house sometimes. I would like to get another animal to be a companion for him.
I know he likes cats and gets along with them but i can't get a cat because i am allergic and Kyle would dig in the litter box. I would like to get a small dog and am considering a chihuahua because kyle is so small. Kyle has his canine teeth out but his other teeth are still sharp. His bites are usually not bad--i am the only one who gets attacked and he never bit my mom's cat. I don't think he would bite a dog. I am afraid with a big dog the dog would eat him.
also i read the chihuahua's get along with members of their own breed but dislike other breeds of dog. i wonder if it would consider a monkey to be like another breed of dog or like a human and get along with it.
if anyone has any advice i would be really grateful. please please please email as i use webtv and it makes it really hard to navigate this bulletin board.

Your squirrel should get along with a small dog if they are raised togethr but NEVER leave the two alone together, they should be supervised constantly.....which wouldn't be much of a companion as the monk will still be alone when you leave. Another squirrel is the very best solution.
