I too live in Tennessee & I am curious about these monkeys. Where can you find a monkey & what are the price ranges?? Do you have to have a special permit to own one?? Could you please e-mail me with this info. Thanks.

I live in tn and am interested in a marmoset as a pet. I'm concerned about the development as the breeder want to sell me a baby and it won't be raised by monkeys. Do you have experience with marmosets as pets? Do they adapt to human life or are the majority unable to keep them for long?

We live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. My wife and I have two young black-mantled saddleback tamarins, Saginus Nigricallus. The male bonded to me, the female bonded to my wife. Like African Gray Parrots, these monkeys (at least ours) appear to bond first with only one person. JoJo, the male, is now pretty friendly with anyone who happens to be around me, but I have to be present. The female LOVES my wife's daughter. But that is the only other person she has taken a likeing to, other than my wife. Because we use diapers and a harness and leash designed specifically for tamarins and marmosets, we take them with us pretty much wherever we go. JoJo pouts if I have to leave him at home. He also pouts if I try to hold China, the female. In fact, he does EVERYTHING he knows I do not want him to do when I hold China. He climbs on the mantle-clock, knocks over knick-knacks, climbs up the den door and does high-dives from the top of the door down to the sofa. So if I try to hold the female, I have to do it out of his sight. We keep them in separate cages right now, because my goal is to have two ULTRA-tame and (someday when they mature) mating monkeys. So far we have one ultra-tame monkey, JoJo, and one very tame (to my wife only) monkey, China. Our harness, leash, diapers, and sleeping tubes come from www.metromonkey.com
