I have a 1 week old rhesus. I've been feeding him Simalic w/ low iron.is this ok? what does Iron do to a baby monk? when can I start him on Baby food?? and baby juice? cereal? and regular food??
the lady I got him from didnt know any of this and I dont want to hurt him so please help any info will be used and also recipes??

You are ok with similac "low iron"....the less iron the better, but you would do much better with a formula specifically made for baby non-human primates. You can get "Primilac", whcih is made for monks, and this is what I would recommend , especially since the bay is so young. Look on the net, and you can find it. Feed your baby every 3-4 hours, as they begin to show signs of hunger.
Feed them as much as they need, they will stop when they are full. When the baby begins to get hungry more often betwen bottles, then start adding something to the bottle, like Baby Rice cereal and/or baby Baby strained fruits.
Also, as your baby grow, they will need a speically made primate chow. Since they won't have teeth for a while, you can grind it up into a powder and mix it with their bottle to get them used to the taste. You can order primate chow...you should get the OLD WORLD chow.....from Purina, the division of MAzuri Foods. I will be happy to send you this link as well, or perhaps your local feed store can order it for you.
It does have an expiration date, so grind it up, put it in Ziploc bags and freeze it for freshness.
There is also a soft primate chow available in cans :)
Down the road, when baby has teeth, you can being adding fresh fruits and vegetables, one at a time.
