okay, i am replying to my own question but I have learned there is no vaccination for rabies. A monkey with rabies is unheard of.

Most people have their vet use the KILLED virus and only a very small amount just to be able to have papers of protection saying that the monkey has been vaccinated against rabies. Monkeys are primates just like you and I. The only way that non human primates get rabies is to be bitten by something that has rabies.
Needless to say there are cases every year (despite this information)of monkeys being decapitated to test for rabies because of a bite or scratch. Normally it is the health dept in that particalar county that is making the call. In the case of a bite the Local Health Dept superceeds other information. We need to educate our Health Depts so that they will not be acting out of ignorance in the future.

Hope this helps,
Robin
