Comments On: what does it take to be able to own a monkey?

Passion, dedication and love beyond the normal human ability. Money, dedication and hard work, cleaning poop and urine all day. Tolerence to being bit and having your hair pulled and being pooped on.

let me tell you something, i have all of the above and i still couldn't give my monkey the time and life he deserves. i had to give him up after a year and a half and it broke my heart. this was only last week. trust me when i say you have no idea what you are getting yourself into by wanting a monkey. if you get one, just plan on devoting the next 30 years to that monkey- completly. if you love monkeys that much, do them a favor by NOT getting one. good luck to you.

Wow! No offense, but that's not the kind of attitude you need if you really want a pet monkey. If you have love, compassion, and patients nothing should stop you from keeping good care of your monkey and loving him/her like your own child. In a lot of ways a monkey IS like a child. You would never give up on your child would you? Basically you have to devote your life to them, yes, but it's the same as you would for a child. Through hard times and good you have to be there for it and show it love, JUST like a child!

wow again, wow, to both to all....I am only the friend of a monkey mom and I am shocked by some of this. Yes yes , we get any pet, we committ to their life cycle. I myself have a Sugar Glider, known to live up to 25 years. and yes I will be there for her if I live that long. However, no matter how dedicated we are to our pets, just as with our children, things in life are unpredictable and ever changing. Health is a key factor that one can not forsee when making the pledge to a pet. What would you have one do, die, in order to keep the committment, that would be pretty silly since if your gone, who takes care of the pet? hmmm ??

And as to not getting the monkey if you truely love them, what if someone who does not love them has them cause you don't think you can handle it? Good questions and food for thought I hope.......thank you.

Can you leave your monkey home alone like when you are at work or school? Which monkey do you think would be good for me if I want a cute small fluffy black monkey? Do Spider Monkey's get very big?

Where would I even start looking for a monkey or chimp to own. I have searched everywhere on here with no clue. The only one I found was for 5,000 are all at that cost. Thank you for your reply and any help.

Hi, Im only 15, going to be 16 soon and I am so in love with mokeys! I know I cant devote all my time and energy into having one even though I wish with all my heart I could. Is there any way I could visit a monkey in the Ohio area, like someone who owns one.i live in Columbus. So if there is anyone out there in the columbus,Ohio are that would like to help me out in my time of needing help I would love if you would e-mail me. it takes alot;mostly every one in my family is very into the primate family as well as i.i have helped and visted so many times at the zoo it's not funny any more. see i always here about the bad things about monkeys,when deep down in side i still want one they are the cutest thing that i have seen.but it's not all about that it is about what you need to survive the new live living in your home

I think they need your full attention. Altough they are cute they are a lot of hard work. Believe me I've had one before and there not all peaches and cream.

I mean if you think you can really be careful and know what you are dealing with then hey I say go for it and adopt a monkey! Trust me I am talking here from expirence here. I had a monkey for three years and I think I am going for another one.
