dear monkey killer,
squirrel monkeys live for about 25-30 years in captivity. in the wild however that is a good question? with the depletion of the rainforests and humans interaction with the squirrels, their lifespan is decreasing rapdly! if i remember correctly they live for about 15-20 years of age. a good resource on squirrels as well as other mammals is The Encyclopedia of Mammals, by Dr. David MacDonald.
Now I have a question for you, which maybe you could help me with? I am doing a research paper on squirrels and how much time they spend on the ground vs. in the tree tops-i go to school at America's Teaching Zoo in Moorpark, CA and have observed our squirrels, but I need some research or anything to back-up my observations. Can you help?
thanks, hope this helps,
orca4owen

I had one squirrel monkey that lived for 32 years. When she died she was blind from cataracts and had many health problems. I think she had lived about the maximum life span of a squirrel monkey. I had others that lived until their mid 20's.

Dear Cynthia,

You said that your squirrel monkey died and THEN she got blind and had many health problems. How can she die then you can tell that she was blind and had many health problms. I am very confused at what you are trying to say. Well I just thougt I would say something about it because it would be bugging me forever.
Thank you.
Sincerly,
Maggie
