Comments On: Hope Walker defending SSA ???

I find this ludicrous.
~Most of the SSA members are private owners that dress their monkeys and raise them as human family members.
~The SSA hand book that Hope endorses was written by private monkey owners.
These are supposed to be the very people that Hope Walker has been striving to have their monkeys taken away from.
Something is wrong with this picture.

From: Hope Walker on 10/12/00Actually, the handbook was written and revised by a variety of individuals - not just private owners.
I am, as I have said before, against private ownership in almost every case. However, and please follow the train of logic, some people already have primates. Should we ignore those people and (in effect) kill their animals simply because they made a bad choice? Of course not.
Thus, I think it is important that those people who have primates have resources, that those that are thinking about purchase have -facts-, that there be facilities to take primates once they are dumped (which they often are) and that there be education across a broad length of media so as to slow the trade.

From: on 10/12/00Well Hope I do agree with the fact that private primate owners do need resources as the proper care of their monkeys. So do the Zoo's and Sanctuaries.
Your education accross a broad length of media so as to slow down the trade (as you put it) has much to be desired. It is full of half truths and leaves the wrong impression on people that do not know the real truth. For instance the 20/20 program aired not to long ago. It is very damaging to the responsible/commited primate owners. It is very damaging to the SSA members that you are endorsing.
Something just doesn't make sense here.

From: Hope Walker on 10/15/00Fortunately, anon poster, I didn't work on the 20/20 program nor did the producers contact our organization for information. However, it is my opinion that almost everything the public saw that night was true.
With that said, you obviously don't understand the mechanics of a media campaign. My reference to our work as a charity has nothing to do with what 20/20 produces.
Thus, I think it would be prudent for you to wait until we actually develop the campaign before you tell the entire board that it is "full of half truths" or "gives the wrong impression".
Cheers,
Hope Walker

I thought this organization was for primate owners .Was ssa lieing about that to .Also owning a primate in a mistake of ours.so ssa use money from our little mindless selfs, poseing to protect the individual primate owner just to have them taken away. oh but thanks for putting your foot in your mouth earlier
the truth does com out.
thats why we as primate owners need to come together and form our own orginization and put legal concil together to fight socialist who want to ban our animals from ownership. if they are taken care of;it is our right to have them.
